Getty’s girls’ fortress is an
initiative founded to help the girl child and all her struggles, afflictions
and help elevate her strengths. This initiative aspires to serve, protect,
elevate and strengthen the girl child. We believe the girl child isn’t weak or
fragile like most NGOs and other organizations have publicized in order to get
funds.
The girl child is maltreated
and afflicted in so many areas of her life but she never gives up. She never
lets that keep her from dreaming big, being ambitious or break her spirit. The
girl child is the mother of tomorrow and she needs moral support as much as she
needs the rudimentary tools to enable her grow up into a woman of substance and
that’s where GGFI comes in.
We strive to bring all the girl
child problems, struggles and all the heinous crimes to light. We aspire to
protect them and provide them with resources that will help them fight back or
prevent most of the situations that
victimize and stigmatize them….there are some well known situations that have
plagued the girl child for centuries and others are cultural or religiously
related.
GGFI is an intiative that is cultivated on
outreach programmes so as to be accessible to the girl child nationwide then
later spread internationally. We have partnerships with several orphanages
currently and we are hoping to grow our partnerships al over so as to be able
to touch and be lease of hope to girls all over the country and some day
globally. Because its not only the girl child that needs enlightenment on
handling her plight but her care givers and very many other people around the
world that are mostly ignorant. So we strive to educate everyone out there both
male and female. Not just to paint the child as fragile or weak. Although she
is, stigmatizing her with it or giving everyone ammunition to walk all over
doesn’t work in her interests. Its time that picture gets painted afresh.
The girl child being portrayed
as weak and defenceless is what gives the crimes against them and the culprits
power while making them appear like it’s the girl child’s fault that she is
victimized. GGFI aspires to enlighten the girl child that as much as women have
been stigmatized as the weaker sex it doesn’t mean they should fold their arms
and sit feeling sorry for themselves when they can eradicate ignorance with us
and fight back with education to end the victimization and stigmatization as
long as they are knowledgeable and have the foresight on how to go about it.
The girl child not only needs
educational institutions to provide them with the necessary tools they need to
elevate and strengthen them. We are looking to actually make use of the
counselors in this country though having them volunteer is an issue. There are
students majoring in psychology that can also intern or do it as a community
service to get extra credit for their grades but we’ll have to get in touch with
the campuses to offer that so that we enrich both the afflicted and the
volunteers and that way we wouldn’t run out of counselors or psychologists that
the girl child definitely require to have well-rounded growth both mentally and
physically.
There is hope that I the near
future we would be able to loan money to the girls that have grown into women
under our supervision and need to start their lives or families on their own.
They can use the money to start up a business according to their strengths or
help them move in somewhere else if they get employment before their actual
salary starts coming in. Where they would have to pay back ofcourse with some
type of percentage to keep generating revenue for the running of the NGO and
support the other girls working on success and independence like them.
